Give Back... Volunteer!

When Mechuwana was founded in 1948 there was a concious decision to run the programs with volunteer leaders and volunteer staff. This decision has added to the richness and quality of our program, and at the same time gives thousands of people the opportunity to put their faith into practice.

Camp Mechuwana employs only a small permanent staff to run the camp. The rest is done by a dedicated group of volunteers. If you think you would like to volunteer your time as a counselor or maintenance worker. Please contact the camp office if you have questions or would like more information.

Youth Leaders

Youth Leaders are the backbone of Mechuwana. Those who have been to Mechuwana as campers often want to give new campers that same wonderful experience while broadening their own horizons.

If you are a youth in grades 8-12 and you would like to be a Youth Leader this summer, you must attend a training session this spring. For more detailed information about what is involved in being a youth leader, please read the Youth Leader training manual.

Adult Volunteers

Adult volunteers are a critical part of our program. They work closely with deans and camp staff to provide leadership and guidance for our campers.

Parents and guardians who volunteer get a $100 credit toward the price of their child's camp. To apply to be a volunteer please fill out the following forms. As part of the application process a criminal background check will be performed.

After the application is approved you will work closely with the dean of your particular program in regards to orientation and any special training. For more detailed information, please consult the volunteer training manual.

Deans

A Dean is an administrative person for a specific program at camp. The Dean organizes and executes a weeklong program during the summer camping seasons. It is the Dean's responsibility, with assistance from the Camp Director, to recruit counselors for their week of camp. Many of Mechuwana's most popular programs were the ideas of volunteer Deans. If you are interested in becoming a dean please contact the camp office. For more information about being a Dean please read both the volunteer and Dean's training manuals.
