Are you in Grades 8-12 and want to volunteer at an elementary camp or Adult Special Needs camp this summer? Then please click here to download a registration form and plan to attend one of two youth leader trainings at Mechuwana this spring. You have to attend one of the trainings in order to become a Youth Leader (scholarships are available). So, sign up today and plan to come to camp to learn about teamwork, volunteering, and the importance of Youth Leaders as a part of Mechuwana's ministry. We look forward to seeing you on either Saturday, March 23 or Sunday, March 24. With these cold temperatures this week, it sure is nice to think about a week of warm weather and sunshine at Mechuwana!

We are delighted that so many junior and senior high youth have signed up to join us at Mechuwana for our annual New Year's Eve celebration. This event has been happening for more than 15 years, and it is a great way to ring in the New Year. We are sorry to say that registration is now closed, but hope that you all have a safe and happy New Year!

Please mark your calendars and plan to join us on Saturday, July 28, 2012 for Open House and Alumni Day. Camp will be open for the afternoon for old friends, new friends, and anyone who wants to come spend time at Mechuwana. Activities will begin at 1:00 p.m., then join us for worship at 4:00 p.m., including a message by Rev. Joan DeSanctis. Come walk the new Julio DeSanctis Peace Path, take a tour of camp, see the new Lodge roof, and more. Then stay for worship and dinner in the Commons. We hope to see you there. Please RSVP to camp at mechuwana@fairpoint.net or (207) 377-2924 to let us know you are coming.

Hope to see you on July 28th!

We are sad to announce the passing of Anita Bailey, wife of Ray Bailey, camp's long-time maintenance director. Anita was also the grandmother of campers Ian and Steve-o Grima. Read the full obituary, including the very cool story about how Anita and Ray met, here http://obituaries.kjonline.com/obituaries/mainetoday-kennebecjournal/obituary.aspx?n=anita-m-bailey&pid=157557328. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Ray and Anita Bailey scholarship fund at Mechuwana or to Aldersgate UMC. Both addresses are at the end of the obituary. Anita, you will be missed...you were a very special part of camp's family.

Today's Kennebec Journal had an op-ed about sending underprivileged children to summer camp. Mechuwana was mentioned as being one of those camps where children will go as a result of local scholarships. Have you thought about sponsoring a child to come to Mechuwana for a week this summer? If you would like to do that, please call the camp office at 207.377.2924 or email camp at mechuwana@fairpoint.net. Help a child make a lifetime of memories by coming to camp for a week this summer.

A lot of you have been asking about Wally Webb and how he is doing. Wally is a longtime camp counselor and friend who was in a terrible car accident earlier this winter. We just received information about a benefit concert for Wally and wanted to share the info with you. We hope to see you there! Here is a Facebook post from the Eaton Memorial UMC:

Benefit Concert for Wally Webb

Mark your calendars!!!! If you like big band music, like to tap your toes, and like to do good things for other people........go to Spruce Mountain High School Cafeteria, North Campus, (Jay, ME) on March 4th, 6:00 PM for a benefit concert for Rev. Walter Webb (Wally).

Wally was in a horrific accident in Auburn in December. He is now at Marshwood in Lewiston, working to recover some of his mobility.... Eaton Memorial Methodist is sponsoring a benefit concert for him. Wally was Eaton's minister years ago and his wife, Kay, is Eaton's minister presently.

Dale Perkins (Perkins Music House) will be there with his OPUS ONE Big Band......great music played by some of the finest musicians in the state!! It's wonderful entertainment. Admission is free, a love offering will be requested. Hope to see everyone there and if you can't be there consider a donation.

Please and thank you all.
Sincerely. The Eaton Memorial UMC
